Hi! I’m Lillian! I’m a UI/UX Designer in New York.
The goal of this case study was to design a game trailer app for Nexus Gaming that allows users to easily browse and purchase games on one platform. In addition, to solve these issues by designing more accessible and user friendly interface.

Nexus Gaming is a platform that combines all the digital games in one. They provide automatic updates for their games and expanded to include games from third party publishers.
Gamers who are in search for a new game end up spending more time looking for a game than playing the actual game.
Design a game trailer app for Nexus Gaming that allows users to easily preview games
and choose a game that interest them.
One takeaway is that most interviewees agree that the process took too long to find and is not fun. Extra time is also wasted if you downloaded a game but did not like it.
Pain Point:
1. Searching everything on the internet (time-consuming)
2. Users don’t know what type of games to look for.
3. The process of finding a game takes too long
Plan of Action:
1. Conduct an Information Architecture to figure out the most efficient way to navigate
2. The game trailer should be visually appealing
3. Develop a list of recommended games to assist users in discovering their preferred game
How might we make the search process less stressful and make it into a rewarding experience?
Key Points:
1. All games are in one platform
2. Easier navigation to search a game
3. Game trailers should be visually appealing
I wanted to create a seamless experience that allows users to complete their tasks, instead of finding their way around the app. The more content the product has, the more significant the role of IA is.
Taking the time to draft iterations of each screen of the homepage app on paper to ensure that the elements that made it to digital wireframes would be well-suited to address the users pain points. For the home screen, I prioritized an efficient yet clean visual to help users meet their needs.
As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research. Easy navigation was a key user need to address in the designs, in addition to equipping the app to work with assistive technologies.
I have conducted a usability test on 5 participants (ages 20-30). See document.
Pattern Identification:
- It was observed that 3 out of 5 participants knew how to select a game.
This means that the users were able to select a game properly.
- It was observed that 4 out 5 participant could not find the “Add to Cart” function.
This means that participants would like to view their carts before they purchase the game.
It was observed that 3/5 participants knew how to select a game.
Participants did not know how to select the game. There was only a “Learn More” button.
“I did not know how to select a game; I just saw the “Learn More” button on the side. There should be a “like” button just incase I want to go back to see what I was interested in.” - (Gamer A)
It was observed that 4/5 participants could not find the “Add to Cart” feature.
Participant was frustrated because she had to enter her credit card information the second time.
“Maybe add an “Add to Cart” button and have a check box if anyone wants to save their payment information. That way, they won’t have to re-enter their credit card again” - (Gamer C)
The reason why I chose darker colors is because dark mode for the interface tends to relieve eye strain, especially in low light conditions, while saving mobile devices’ battery life.
How can I improve even more?
1. Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed.
2. Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
The app makes users feel like Nexus Gaming really thinks about how to meet their needs. One quote from peer feedback: “The app made it so easy and fun to see what game is new and trending! I would use this app as a go-to for any new upcoming games.” Seeing feedback like these make me want to improve the app even more.
While designing the Nexus Gaming app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. There will always be iterations and never one solid solution. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app’s designs, which is very eye opening.

The Goal: Create a visually appealing website that allows users to book and plan their vacation easily.
To build a strong design system that helps travelers book and plan destinations effectively on their budget.
Inspired by travel agencies, I wanted to:
1. Simplify the search experience
2. Create user focused feeds based on user’s behavior history
3. Create a strong brand identity and visual language
One takeaway is that most of the participants agree that the process of planning a vacation is long and tedious.
Problems:
1. The process of planning a vacation is time consuming
2. Users will get tired of planning because it is tedious
How might we make vacation planning more enjoyable and less stressful?
Key Points:
1. Create an “All-in-One” platform. (destination -> hotel -> flights)
2. Have less steps in the process
3. Make visuals engaging for users
After I figured out who and how this website will look like, I initiated a competitor analysis and visual research.
I went for Crazy Eights because I wanted to map the structure of the website with different possible layouts. For the home screen, I prioritized an easy visual of the travel website to help users explore various destinations.
By going through multiple iterations, I prioritized the core elements of the website. I created digital wireframe prototype to test usability of the site structure.
